Academy wins for Kalesis and Amweg.

The inaugural CIK-FIA Academy Trophy saw two new winners in its second round at Alcaniz as Greece's Fillipos Kalesis and Severin Amweg won the two finals.
Fillipos Kalesis and Severin Amweg shared the wins in the second round of the CIK-FIA Academy Trophy at Alcaniz in Spain but it is double round one winner Anthoine Hubert who still holds the championship lead with one round remaining.

At 1700-metres the Alcaniz venue would provide a tough test for the 31 Academy competitors with the blazing Spanish sun simply adding to the challenge.

Finland's Niklas Tiihonen led the way after timed qualifying and the heats with Swiss driver Amweg second and Monaco's Charles Leclerc third but from eighth on the grid Greek driver Kalesis came through to grab the win, passing Leclerc and Amweg on the final lap to seal victory by just five hundredths. Leclerc had to make do with second with Amweg third, Tiihonen fourth and championship leader Hubert fifth.

That put Kalesis on pole for the second final but although he led the opening laps he couldn't resist Amweg who swept through and quickly opened up an unassailable lead. Tiihonen also scrabbled past the erstwhile leader into second place but he didn't have an answer for Amweg either as the Finnish driver ran out the winner by nearly four seconds.

After being shuffled back to fifth Kalesis fought back to take third in the final few metres from Hubert with England's Roy Johnson completing the top five. Leclerc was one of a number of drivers to fall foul of the stewards and was penalised ten seconds post race, which dropped him down to 20th.

Despite being locked out of the podium in both races Hubert's consistency means he heads to the final round of the series with a 14 point lead over Tiihonen with Kalesis vaulting into third place, albeit 27 points behind Hubert with just 50 left on offer.
