KF3 World Cup glory for Albon.

Undefeated Alex Albon is crowned 2010 KF3 World Cup Champion after a stunning weekend in Portugal.
Englishman Alex Albon added the KF3 World Cup to his European title with an imperious display at Braga in Portugal.

Intrepid Driver Programme driver Alex, the son of former British Touring Car racer Nigel Albon, enjoyed the perfect weekend at the 1286-metre Braga circuit en-route to World Cup glory.

In a field of nearly 80 drivers Albon was fastest of all in timed qualifying and then won all four of his qualifying heats to easily take pole position for the pre-final. Max Verstappen, who won three of his heats and finished second to Albon in his fourth, lined up alongside the Englishman for the 12-lap race.

The Dutchman slipped back to fifth in the race itself as Albon ran out the winner by nearly three seconds from Dubai's Edward Jones, Frenchman Pierre Gasly and Spain's Pedro Hiltbrand which meant that he would start the main 20-lap final from the inside of the third row of the grid with Albon two rows ahead of him on pole position.

When the lights changed to green Albon took full advantage of the clean air in front of him as he surged into an early lead with Verstappen briefly grabbing second from Gasly as Jones got involved in a multi-kart pileup that saw Matthew Graham thrown from his kart luckily without injury.

Gasly re-passed Verstappen for second and briefly took the lead from Albon, who fought straight back to reclaim top spot before half distance. Once he had regained the lead there was no looking back for Albon, who maintained a one second lead to the end as Verstappen finally wrested second place away from Gasly to take the runner-up spot.

Gasly also lost third place towards the end of the race to England's Callan O'Keeffe and just held off a charging Hiltbrand for fourth. Behind Hiltbrand France's Leo Roussel and Esteban Ocon, Britain's Jake Dennis, Denmark's Christian Sorensen and Spain's Carlos Gil completed the top ten.
