Embassy brings in home ace for Interlagos

Embassy Racing has announced that former Champ Car ace Mario Haberfeld is to form part of it's driver line-up for the final round of the Le Mans Series at Interlagos next month.

The Brazilian will join Darren Manning and Warren Hughes at the wheel of the Radical SR9 for the event with a change in role within the team for Neil Cunningham meaning the ever-popular New Zealander is unable to make the trip to Brazil.

"Mario was at the top of my list as the third driver for Interlagos for obvious reasons," team boss Jonathan France said. "He knows the circuit, he is a brilliant driver and he is practically at home.

"We have already met and I am sure he will fit in with the Embassy team. I feel that our driver line-up for the Mil Milhas is now the strongest in LMP2 and it would be a great end to the season and a great launch platform for our 2008 plans if we could finish well here."

Haberfeld himself has been without a competitive drive this season and has spent much of the year working on Formula BMW projects in both his native Brazil and in North America.

With that in mind, he admitted that he couldn't wait to line up in the Radical for the final round of the year.

"I am very excited about working with Embassy," he said. "The team is young but totally professional, dedicated and determined. They are definitely going places and have been unlucky not to have finished higher in some of their races this year.

"I hope that I can use my talent and local knowledge to bring them the success they deserve and end the season with a win."
