Larbre Competition will aim to end the Le Mans Series season in style as the Interlagos circuit in Brazil plays host to the final round of the 2007 season – the 1000 mile Mil Milhas.
The team will field one Aston Martin DBR9 in the final round of the season, with regular drivers Gregor Fisken and Steve Zacchia being joined at the wheel by Frenchman Roland Berville and home driver Fernando Rees.
“We've never competed at Interlagos before, so it's a challenge that the whole team are looking forward to,” team boss Jack Leconte said. “We haven't made any changes to the car but we feel that we will run strongly at the race.
“We are one of the few GT teams to be present at this new event organised by the ACO and that's a shame for the championship. Unfortunately we had to treat this race as a separate event in order to raise the budget to attend.”
Former World Series by Renault racer and SudAm F3 race winner Rees will be making his sportscar debut and he admitted to being excited about making his racing return following 18 months out after a career-threatening accident which saw him break two vertebrae in his back.
“I've been waiting for this opportunity since the accident happened and I cannot wait to be back racing again,” he said. “I know Interlagos really well and whilst the anti-clockwise layout and length of the race will make it very physically demanding for all the drivers, it's a great circuit with lots of overtaking places and that should make for a fantastic race.”
Berville, who raced at the Le Mans 24 Hours with Larbre this year, will be returning to the driver line-up and said he didn't have to think twice about accepting the drive.
“When Jack discussed this opportunity with me I said yes immediately,” he said. “The Mil Milhas is a prestigious event and I'm looking forward to being part of it. The most testing aspect during such a long race will be the heat.”
