JAS set for sportscar switch

JAS Motorsport set to move into sportscars for 2010 with Acura LMP2 programme
JAS Motorsport has revealed plans to move into sportscar racing for the 2010 season.

The team, best known for campaigning a Honda Accord in the World Touring Car Championship and developing a new Honda Civic R3 rally car in recent years, looks set to make the most of its relationship with Honda Performance Development to bring the Acura ARX-01b to European shores.

In a short statement, JAS revealed that it is developing a programme that would see it enter 'one or two' of the LMP2 machines in the Le Mans Series next season, while also chasing an entry into the Le Mans 24 Hours.

The programme is currently being presented to drivers and sponsors in an effort to secure the budget needed by the end of the year.

Should a deal be forthcoming then JAS could be the second team to campaign an Acura in Europe in 2010, with British outfit Strakka Racing also widely tipped to run the car next season after a year in LMP1 with a Ginetta-Zytek.

Is it official that they are going to get the Lowe's Fernandez machines or perhaps an older car in the Patron or XM cars?
