Creation were dismayed at not being able to translate some impressive race pace at Spa-Francorchamps with an equally good result after a mid-race collision consigned them to an eventual 16th position.
Staying out of trouble in the early stages, the combination of Jamie Campbell-Walter, Felipe Ortiz and Shinji Nakano were up to third place overall after the first hour and although a puncture for both Campbell-Walter and Ortiz set them back slightly, a podium remained in the offing.
However, when the car was handed over to Nakano, the Japanese driver collided with a GT2 Porsche on his out-lap, forcing him to limp to the pit lane and undertake some lengthy repairs.
Although they got back out on track, 16th overall and sixth in class was best they could manage. Nonetheless, while team manager Ian Bickerton was disappointed with the result, he was encouraged by the pace shown by the CA07.
“Jamie did exactly the right thing at the start. He got us into a good position to challenge with the Pescarolos, Zytek and Charouz Lola. Our car was superb today, and we are definitely as quick as all these cars now. The boys also did a cracking job on the pit stops, and won it for us on a couple of occasions, getting us out before everyone else.”
“I think I can say that the team will be looking further into the incident. It was desperately disappointing as the car went really well this weekend, having found some pace at our short test at Magny Cours. It now runs well on the medium Dunlop tyre, so that's something else we have made good progress with.
“Our Japanese partners from AIM Industries were here to see us this weekend and they are very happy, despite the end result, as they can see where we are going and what we can do. So it's onwards and upwards now to Silverstone.”
