Engine woes spoil Bruichladdich hopes

Team Bruichladdich Radical lamented being unable to make the most of a high attrition rate in the fourth Le Mans Series round at Spa-Francorchamps when they too were eliminated by mechanical issues.

Having started sixth in class, the LMP2 Radical SR9 was making steady progress up the ranks with Tim Greaves and Stuart Moseley at the wheel, even if an unscheduled pit stop to repair damage brought on by contact with a GT2 Porsche delayed them slightly.

Nonetheless, the team had managed to get themselves up to second in class and seventh overall when Greaves radioed in and announced the car seemed to be down on power. Although the telemetry showed no signs of ill health, the engine indeed gave way on the second lap of Moseley's stint.

“There's nothing more we could have done,” team owner/driver Greaves said. “As soon as I felt something the team looked at the data but nothing could be found and Stuart then had no warning. It's galling to have no result again to show our performance on the score sheets but to be running in the top three so strongly is some consolation.”

Moseley was also hugely disappointed at not being able to complete what could have been the team's best result of the season.

“The car felt really good. I was really pleased with the tyres in the double stint – they felt better at the end of the second hour than they did at the end of hour one! I had a chance for some good racing and was pleased to be following Joao Barbosa in the LMP1 Rollcentre Pescarolo and be on his pace through the corners – we just lost out on straight-line speed to the higher spec. car.”
