Andretti name to return to Le Mans

22 February 2010

One of the most famous names in motorsport will return to the Le Mans 24 Hours this season after Rebellion Racing confirmed that Marco Andretti will drive on its cars for the French classic.

The son of Michael Andretti and grandson of Mario Andretti will join forces with Nicolas Prost and Neel Jani at the wheel of one of the Rebellion-powered Lola Coupes as the Andretti name returns to La Sarthe for the first time since 2000 when Mario Andretti teamed with David Brabham and Jan Magnussen in a Panoz Motorsports LMP1 roadster.

The IndyCar racer will get the chance to sample the Lola-Rebellion for the first time during the official Le Mans Series test at Paul Ricard next month.

“We believe that Marco will fit perfectly with his two co-drivers in the #12 Lola-Rebellion,” team manager Bart Hayden said. “He has shown that he has the ability to compete at the highest level of motorsport.

“All three drivers in the #12 Lola raced at the same time in the A1GP series so they know each other from those days. When we get to Le Mans, Marco will be able to draw on the experience of the rest of the guys in the team and we are looking forward to seeing him in the car at the Paul Ricard test in March."

The addition of Andretti to the Rebellion line-up, along with Prost, means a number of famous motorsport names are set to be represented on the grid, with Mansell and Brabham also featuring on an increasingly evocative entry.
