Early exit for Aston Martin

11 June 2011

Aston Martin Racing endured a trying outing in the Le Mans 24 Hours with both cars forced to retire after a total of just six laps.

The new AMR-One cars had qualified well down the order towards the back of the LMP1 field, with the team using the race as part of the development programme for the new car.

Both the #007 and #009 suffered a failure of the water-pump drive on the same lap early on, with Adrian Fernandez and the #009 left stranded on the circuit as a result.

After a spin, the #007 returned to the pits in the hands of Darren Turner but was ultimately forced to retire with the same problem as the sister car, leaving factory team disappointed.

As a result of the double DNF, technicians and mechanics from the team are now set to spend the remainder of the race helping customer outfits Kronos Racing, JOTA Sport and AMR Middle East.
