AF Corse re-shells car after practice shunt

14 June 2012

AF Corse has been granted permission to change the chassis on its #51 car after an accident during Wednesday's practice session for the Le Mans 24 Hours.

Former F1 driver Giancarlo Fisichella went off at heavily at the Porsche Curves in practice, with the Ferrari 458 Italia sustaining extensive damage in the process.

The damage prevented the car from taking part in qualifying on Wednesday evening, with the team granted permission to bring in a new chassis in order to endure that the car can contest the race.

A new chassis arrived at the Circuit de la Sarthe on Thursday morning, with the team starting work to rebuild the car from the ground up with the hope of being able to hit the track for the final hour of running this evening from 11pm local time.

Should the car fail to run in qualifying, it will be allowed to start the race from the back of the grid.
