Lizard’s Am crew shine in qualifying

15 June 2012

Porsche factory driver Patrick Pilet produced an impressive performance in qualifying for the Le Mans 24 Hours to put the Flying Lizard Motorsport team in pole position in the GTE-Am class.

Pilet's best lap of 3min 57.594secs was set in the opening qualifying session on Wednesday and remained unbeaten in the four hours of running that then followed on Thursday.

Not only was it the fastest lap for a GTE-Am car, it was also the fastest lap turned by a Porsche in the six hours of qualifying and also the sixth fastest time amongst the whole GTE field.

"The team did an excellent job preparing the car for qualifying,” Pilet said. “When I drove the Porsche on Wednesday it was very balanced; we were able to make some small adjustments in the morning session, then in qualifying, with new tyres, I was able to push for my fast lap.

“Everything has been well planned and we've had few problems. In Thursday's sessions we were able to make sure everyone had enough seat time; we accomplished everything we needed to do over the two days."
