Audi hit issues as Dumas shunts

While the opening hours of the Le Mans 24 Hours didn't pass without minor troubles for Audi, the defending champions have hit bigger problems in the fifth hour of the race after Romain Dumas put the third placed R18 Ultra into the barriers.

Dumas was attempting to lap the Flying Lizard Porsche of Seth Neiman at the chicane on the Mulsanne when he got onto the marbles on the outside of the corner and went off into the tyre wall.

The contact left the #3 car nursing heavy damage to the front end, with Dumas ripping away the front bodywork before rejoining with the front-right wheel barely connected.

Despite the fact there was no contact between the two cars, Neiman then went off the road at Indianapolis in the Porsche, which had led the GTE-Am for the majority of the race.

Neiman was able to bring the damaged car back to the pits despite a fire briefly breaking out to the rear of the 997 RSR, although with the class lead having gone as the car was pushed back into the pits.

Dumas has also dragged the damaged Audi back to the pits, but has dropped two laps down already with extensive repairs now set to be carried out.
