HVM Status lodges WEC entry
18 January 2013
The HVM Status GP team has confirmed that it has lodged an entry to compete in the 2013 FIA World Endurance Championship.
The new-look collaboration will field a Lola Coupe in the LMP2 class, with the Status GP team having run the same car in the European Le Mans Series and in seleted WEC events last year.
The team also competed in the Le Mans 24 Hours, where it ran strongly before being forced into retirement.
"We are pleased to have taken this step, being not only very confident in the capabilities for the LMP2 Lola Coupe after the good learning curve last year, but recognising the additional strengths brought to the programme through the collaboration with HVM Racing,” Status GP chief Mark Gallagher said.
“The stability of Lola's commitment to sports prototype racing through the new partnership it has put in place with Multimatic Inc. adds to our confidence. It's a great package and one very worthy of a full WEC LMP2 assault."
HVM's decision to enter into collaboration with Status GP for the season ahead marks its move into sportscar competition, with team principal Keith Wiggins excited about the challenge ahead.
"We are excited to be in WEC and believe strongly in its future,” he said. “We believe we have a very strong programme with HVM, Status GP, Lola and Multimatic. We could not have hoped for such a strong start with experienced partners all together.
“We are now focusing on those strengths for the start of the season and we will soon have news on the technical progress. It is good to be working with the Lola engineers once more, now with Multimatic's added resources."
