OAK completes WEC line-up
4 March 2013
OAK Racing has completed its driver line-up for the new World Endurance Championship season after confirming the three men who will share its #35 Morgan-Nissan.
Bertrand Baguette returns to the team having been part of its LMP1 programme last year, while Martin Plowman – who, like Baguette is a former IndyCar racer – makes the move into the WEC with past experience of the Onroak Automotive designed LMP2 machine.
Plowman was part of the Conquest Racing team that campaigned a similar car in the American Le Mans Series last year.
Ricardo Gonzalez, who competed for the rival Greaves Motorsport team last season, will complete the line-up.
“I am very proud and happy with the composition of our new FIA World Endurance Championship crew, which I feel is just as competitive and consistent as #24's,” team principal Sebastien Philippe said. “Bertrand and Martin know all about the Morgan LMP2 from 2012, making them a very strong and experienced duo. Meanwhile Ricardo is a silver-rated driver of great talent who has been around the endurance racing scene since 2010 and will greatly benefit from his team-mates' experience.
“Together they can also work with #24's drivers. This is a genuine opportunity to run two entries capable of fighting for victories and start the season with a car that has a year of development behind, not to mention one that proved itself during 2012. We should be at the heart of the battle.”
Olivier Pla, Alex Brundle and David Heinemeier Hansson were confirmed as the drivers in the #24 machine last week, while OAK will confirm drivers for the #45 entry – which will join its two full-season entries in the Le Mans 24 Hours – in due course.
