Giovanni Lavaggi's eponymous LS1 prototype will finally make its first public appearance at this weekend's Nurburgring 1000km, although the car does not expect to see action until the following Le Mans Series round, at Donington Park, in August.

The first LS1 will be presented to press and public in the Nurburgring paddock this Saturday as former F1 backmarker and sportscar ace Lavaggi gears up for a much-delayed debut later in the season.

The prototype has been designed and constructed by Lavaggi, a graduate engineer as well as a race driver, and is the first 'privateer' LMP1 car to fully comply with the Automobile Club de l'Ouest's regulations for 2007. The Nurburgring has been chosen for its maiden appearance as Lavaggi hopes to test the car there immediately after the presentation, in advance of round four of the LMS campaign at the end of August.

The car has been designed around a Cosworth V8, and Lavaggi says he intends to race bearing the white-and-red national colours of Monaco, where he lives and the car has been constructed.
