Strakka Racing has announced that Aston Martin factory driver Darren Turner will complete its line-up for the final round of the Le Mans Series at Silverstone.
Turner will join regular pairing Nick Leventis and Peter Hardman for the weekend as the team looks to improve on the fourth place secured on its debut in the series at Spa earlier in the year.
Aside from success at Le Mans, Turner took a podium finish in the Spa 24 Hours last month with the privateer Gigawave Motorsport squad and admitted he was looking forward to an LMS outing on home soil.
“I spoke to Peter at Spa about doing Silverstone,” Turner told Crash.net
at Silverstone during the latest BTCC rounds. “I had been down to possibly do a race in the GT2 car at Brno but then I had a call from George Howard-Chappell at the weekend to say we weren't doing it and I called Peter back and said I was available.
“Obviously I have the knowledge of working with the works team and hopefully that will make it easier for me to help the team get the best from the car for the weekend. That will be a positive thing for both Strakka as the privateer team and for Aston Martin Racing.”
Hardman meanwhile was delighted to bring the experienced sportscar ace into the team for the final event of the season for the Aston Martin.
“It's great to have him in the car,” he said. “His experience is huge. He's been part of the Aston Martin DBR9 project since the very beginning, and we hope to be able to learn a great deal through him.”
