Smith rejoins Quifel-ASM

Guy Smith is to return to the Le Mans 24 Hours in 2009 after confirmed a deal to compete with the Quifel-ASM team.

Smith ran with the Portuguese squad last year at La Sarthe, helping the team to finish fourth in the LMP2 class, and will now return with the team's new Ginetta-Zytek 09S for the summer classic.

“We had a good run finishing fourth in class at Le Mans last year but I feel the Zytek option will put us in very strong contention,” Smith, who will drive the car for the first time in tests at Paul Ricard next month, said. “I'm delighted to be going back to Le Mans with the ASM team.

“The new Zytek has already proven to be competitive and should give me a great chance of winning the LMP2 class.

“You cannot underestimate the challenge of the 24 Hour race but I know what it takes to win there and I'm confident that with the package we have we'll be in good shape.”
