The Spyker Squadron team has confirmed the signing of Jarek Janis as a factory driver for the 2009 season as the Czech driver prepares to make a full-time return to competitive motorsport.

Janis sat out much of 2008 as he continued recovering from spinal injuries sustained in an accident during the 1000km of Spa back in August 2007 when a tyre failure on his Spyker C8 Spyder GT2R at Eau Rouge saw him go off heavily into the barriers.

Having returned to action late last year running in an ex-DTM Mercedes in the International Czech Circuit Championship, Janis was given the chance to rejoin the Spyker team for testing of the new C8 Laviolette GT2R at Vallelunga and will now line up alongside WTCC ace Coronel during the season ahead.

"I am really pleased to be back with the team," he said. "After the accident at Spa in 2007, my first priority was to fully recover and get fit to be able race again. Fortunately [Spyker managing director] Peter van Erp gave me a chance to test with the team last week at Vallelunga and everything went really well. We successfully completed over 200 laps in two days and the car felt great. Both the aerodynamics and the engine have been improved a lot compared to the Spyker C8 that I raced in 2007.

"I am looking forward to racing this season, we have a good chance to be a front runner, and I am pleased to share the car with Tom Coronel, he truly is great person to work with and brings a lot of experience to the team. I would like to thank Peter van Erp for giving me the opportunity to race and Victor Muller and Antonin Charouz for making it possible for me to compete with a Spyker at Le Mans."
