New Zytek impresses in Portugal

The new LMP1 Ginetta-Zytek GZ09S has enjoyed a successful two-day test session at the Portimao circuit in Portugal.

The test session in the Algarve marked the first outing for the car that will be campaigned by Strakka Racing this season, with Peter Hardman and Nick Leventis joined at the wheel by team newcomer Danny Watts.

Watts, who raced a development version of the car in the later stages of the ALMS last season, completed much of the running on the opening day of the test before flying to South Africa to take part in the latest rounds of the A1GP season before Hardman and Leventis then took over at the wheel on day two.

In total, the car completed nearly 1000km of running without problems over the course of the two-day session.

"I really enjoyed it," Hardman said. "The overall dynamics of the car still work extremely well despite the recent rule changes and the engine performance has improved even further since I first drove a Ginetta-Zytek at Valencia last year.

“As team manager I was delighted to see how well the Strakka Racing and Zytek Engineering operations worked well together. I can't wait for the official LMS testing at Paul Ricard."

Zytek Engineering managing director Trevor Foster was also pleased with the way the test had panned out.

"For a first run it was very encouraging," he said. “The car ran trouble free and behaved extremely well over a full two days of testing."
