Beechdean Mansell completes Portimao test

Beechdean Mansell hits the track in Portugal for two day test session at the Portimao circuit
The Beechdean Mansell team has completed the first test of its new Ginetta-Zytek GZ09S with two days of running at the Portimao circuit in Portugal.

Nigel, Leo and Greg Mansell all spent time at the wheel of the car during the test, which saw the team battle mixed weather conditions as it ran on track against a number of its rivals for the season ahead.

The opening day of running in wet conditions saw the team complete a shakedown of the car while working on set-up, with all three drivers then returning to the track for the second day where improved conditions allowed the team to run on dry tyres during the afternoon.

“It's truly brilliant when you can draw breath and say that the test has surpassed every expectation,” former F1 title winner Nigel Mansell said. “The Zytek engine powered car worked pretty flawlessly; I'm so proud of Leo and Greg, the times they got down to in a very short window were very competitive with the Oreca car, which was obviously the main test car, being supported so well by Dunlop.

“To gell a team in just three and a half months is fantastic and while we know we have a huge challenge ahead, we are so pleased with what has been accomplished here.”

The team will return to the track for its next test during the official Le Mans Series test at Paul Ricard early next month.
