Nigel Mansell has undergone precautionary checks following his accident in the first 15 minutes of the Le Mans 24 Hours.

The 1992 F1 champion suffered an apparent puncture after just four laps of the race and went off heavily into the barriers between Mulsanne Corner and Arnage.

The race ran behind the Safety Car as marshals helped Mansell from the car and he was then taken to the circuit medical centre.

With the race, Beechdean Mansell will now turn its focus back to its Le Mans Series campaign.

"He is all okay as far as we are aware," a team spokesman said. "He has just gone through the normal precautionary checks and tests as is the process in any accident.

"We still don't know what happened, but obviously the car is out of the race so we will just have to come back next year."
