Jota disappointed by early exit

13 June 2011

Aston Martin Racing partner outfit Jota Sport endured a disappointing run in the Le Mans 24 Hours after engine issues forced the team to retire from the race after just six and a half hours.

Simon Dolan, Sam Hancock and Chris Buncombe had shown strong page in the GTE-Pro class Aston Martin Vantage and climbed as high as fifth in class before the appearance of the engine problem.

Despite the best efforts of the team, and of mechanics from the factory Aston Martin Racing team, the problem couldn't be fixed at the circuit, which meant an early end to proceedings for the team.

“The team were desperately disappointed to go out so early,” team principal Sam Hignett said. “It's the first time we haven't made nightfall in five appearances at Le Mans. Up until that point our pace had been good and we hadn't suffered a major reliability issue all week.

“Although we're all down about the way it ended, we have to look at those positives and move forward. I'd like to reserve a special mention for Simon whose performance on his first visit to Le Mans has been remarkable. Don't forget this was a guy who four years ago had never driven a racing car. That he's now here and capable of turning in the lap times he did is a fantastic achievement.”
