ACO names automatic Le Mans entries

The automatic entries to Le Mans 2012 are revealed
The Automobile Club de l'Ouest has revealed the teams that have been granted an automatic entry into the 2012 running of the Le Mans 24 Hours.

In total, 17 teams have been offered places in the race on the back of their performances during the 2011 season, with a maximum of 23 slots set to be filled by those teams.

Audi and Peugeot earn one place each automatically after victory at Le Mans and Petit Le Mans, while Rebellion Racing and Dyson Racing earn a place for taking the Le Mans Series and ALMS crowns. Pescarolo and Muscle Milk AMR earn an entry for finishing second in the two series, while the Michelin Green Challenge hands an extra place to both Pescarolo and Dyson amongst the eight LMP1 cars.

In LMP2, Greaves Motorsport earn two invitations for winning at Le Mans and in the Le Mans Series, while there is one entry each for Strakka Racing, Level 5 and Pegasus Racing. Strakka are unlikely to take up their entry having announced a switch to LMP1 for the 2012 season.

Amongst the GTE class teams, AF Corse earn four automatic entries after a successful first year with the Ferrari 458, but it can only take up a maximum of two so will need to decide which entries to use.

Teams have until January 18 to decide if they will take up their entry, while teams who accept an invitation will also need to enter either the Le Mans Series or ALMS.

Those teams who enter the new FIA Endurance World will automatically be entered into the Le Mans 24 Hours, with the entry for both being announced on 2 February.
