Sebring entry revealed

21 February 2012

The opening round of the new FIA World Endurance Championship will feature 30 cars after the entry for the season opener at Sebring was revealed.

The entry features nine cars in both LMP1 and LMP2, with five in GTE Pro and seven in GTE Am.

Audi lead the entry list with three cars entered in LMP1, including the #1 R18 for Le Mans 24 Hours winners Andre Lotterer, Benoit Treluyer and Marcel Fassler.

Rebellion Racing takes both of its Lola-Toyotas, one of which features former F1 racer Nick Heidfeld, while there are single car entries from Pescarolo, OAK Racing, JRM and Strakka Racing – the latter two both debuting in the premier class with the new HPD ARX-03a.

LMP2 is headed by ILMC title winners Singatech Nissan, although the team faces plenty of competition in the second prototype class from the likes of OAK Racing, series debutants Starworks Motorsport and Le Mans 24 Hours victors Greaves Motorsport.

GTE Pro sees three Ferraris – entered by AF Corse (with two) and Luxury Racing – going up against the Team Felbermayr Proton Porsche and the factory Aston Martin Racing Vantage, while in GTE Am, the likes of Larbre Competition, Krohn Racing and AF Corse-Waltrip will hope to kick-start the season with a victory.

“We are very pleased to announce thirty entries for the first ever FIA World Endurance Championship race in the United States at Sebring,” said FIA WEC CEO Gérard Neveu. “With so many countries represented on the entry list, it is an international grid that truly symbolizes the newest World Championship co-organised by the FIA and the ACO.

“In addition please do not forget that Toyota will join us in LMP1 with a hybrid engine in the next round at Spa.”

In addition to the 30 car WEC field, the Sebring 12 Hours will also see a large field contesting the first event on the 2012 American Le Mans Series schedule.
