Aston Martin names 2013 line-up

Aston Martin Racing reveals its line-up for the 2013 World Endurance Championship season, with the surprise signing of Bruno Senna taking many of the headlines
Aston Martin has confirmed its driver line-up for the 2013 World Endurance Championship, featuring a numbr of new names including former F1 racer Bruno Senna.

The team has secured a four-car entry into the series, with two cars running in the GTE Pro class and a further two in GTE Am. A fifth car is also on the reserve list for the Le Mans 24 Hours.

The two cars running in the GTE-Pro class will be the heavily revised version of the V8-powered Vantage, with both featuring big name driver line-ups.

The #97 entry will see Darren Turner and Stefan Mucke in for the full season, with Peter Dumbreck joining the pair for Spa and Le Mans. The sister #99 car will feature an all-new line-up in the shape of former HRT and Williams F1 man Senna and Frederic Makowiecki, with Rob Bell completing the driver roster at Spa and Le Mans.

Both cars in the GTE-Am class will also be brand new, but built to 2012-spec inline with class regulations.

Allan Simonsen, Christoffer Nygard and Kristian Poulsen will share the #95 entry, while the #96 entry will be shared by Roald Goethe, Stuart Hall and Jamie Campbell-Walter.

AMR will also take a car to Sebring for the opening round of the American Le Mans Series, with Turner, Mucke and Senna on driving duties.

“Last year we proved how fast and reliable the car was, and our two GTE Am entries will pick up where the Pro car finished with victory in Shanghai last year,” AMR team principal and managing director John Gaw said.

“Overall, around 30 per cent of all components on the 2013-specification Pro cars are new, which makes for a significant improvement. We looked at specific areas where we could take weight out of the car and redistribute it to a better location. We have also revised the suspension, which has not only improved the handling but, when combined with the new fly-by wire throttle allowed under this year's regulations, makes the car easier to drive.

“Our aim is to win at Le Mans and in the WEC and we are particularly pleased to welcome such a professional driver line-up to Aston Martin Racing for this centenary year.”
