With Beno?t Treluyer continuing to build upon the impressive lead that Andre Lotterer had handed him in the initial stint in the #1 Audi R18 e-tron quattro, the race leader was now enjoying up to a 50 second margin over his team mate Lo?c Duval in the #2 car, with Oliver Jarvis continuing to run in third place a further 40 seconds behind having lot out in the latest pit top shuffle.

Sebastien Buemi and Neel Jani continued to hold on to fourth and fifth place in the #8 and #7 Toyotas respectively, while further back the two Rebellion Racing cars were now split by the #21 Strakka Racing HPD ARX-03c car piloted by Jonny Kane which was up to seventh place having overcome a 28-place grid penalty for having a driver not complete the full number of pre-race laps in practice and qualifying, which had left it starting from 36th place instead of its expected eighth.

Alex Brundle had handed over the wheel of the #24 OAK Morgan to David Heinemeier Hansson, in the process only briefly sacrificing the lead in the LMP2 class to Mike Conway in the #26 G-Drive Racing Oreca 03-Nissan before Conway himself then pitted to hand off the car to Roman Rusinov.
