Le Mans test day becomes mandatory for all entries

Le Mans 24 Hours organisers have altered the regulations for the test days ahead of the prestigious endurance event, including making it mandatory for all cars and teams competing being present.

Due to the expanded entry list, jumping from 56 entries to 60 for 2016, administrative checks and scrutineering will begin a day earlier on Thursday 2nd June in preparation for the Le Mans test day on Sunday 5th June.

The test, despite being highly popular with the majority of teams competing, was only mandatory for new cars and rookie drivers but it now mandatory for all teams to attend. However, the regulations have not altered for drivers – any driver who has previously raced at the Le Mans 24 Hours or are on the list of experienced drivers will not be required to take part.

In addition, the test day is reserved solely for Le Mans 24 Hours entries and only special dispensation will be given for experiments related to the World Endurance Championship by the ACO Sports committee.

Last year, British Olympic track cyclist Sir Chris Hoy was given special dispensation to drive at the test day in his LMP3 challenger in the European Le Mans Series to become familiar with the 24 hour circuit layout. Hoy is expected to be announced as part of a Nissan-powered LMP2 driver line-up for Le Mans in the coming days.

Teams may enter up to five drivers per car for the test day and must submit their entries to the ACO Sports Committee by 12th May.
