The 84th running of the Le Mans 24 Hours got underway under safety car conditions due to sudden rain downpour on the starting grid.

After the action followed the safety car for the opening 50 minutes, racing got underway on a quickly-drying circuit with #2 Porsche holding the lead for the opening two racing laps.

However, it was #6 Toyota with Mike Conway at the wheel who held the lead at the end of the first hour.

In LMP2, pole-sitter #26 G-Drive Ligier with Rene Rast in the car held the lead until making its first pit stop of the race to enable the #36 Signatech Alpine to grab the lead.

In the GT-Pro class #91 Porsche with Patrick Pilet grabbed the lead at the hour mark with pit stop changes aplenty shuffling the order, as the KCMG #78 Porsche also held the lead in the GT-Am class.

With the restart coinciding with the opening pit stop window there were plenty of changes for positions so make sure you follow our live commentary section here Click here for Live Commentary of Le Mans 24 Hours 2016
