The annual Paris Supercross saw a surprise victory as the smoke settled on Sunday evening with Justin Brayton taking the crown as King of Bercy after three hectic nights of racing.

The Joe Gibbs Racing Yamaha rider put in solid performances all weekend, but it seemed to be for nothing as L&M Yamaha's James Stewart was simply in a class of his own on Friday and Saturday nights, winning everything but Super-Pole on Saturday night as he seemingly marched irresistibly to the title.

Former AMA National Motocross and Supercross champion Stewart, hot favourite before the event began, took wins in the Super-Pole and Duel races on Sunday, starting the final night in typically devastating form but as the riders assembled on the gate for the final race of the weekend, the number one Yamaha failed to appear - bizarrely, mid-event, Stewart had come down with food poisoning, and his racing was over for the weekend.

With Brayton clearly the second fastest rider of the weekend, the way seemed clear for the young American to sweep to his first major crown, and he was well-placed as home favourite Marvin Musquin stalked Stewart's team mate Josh Hill with Brayton in third.

When reigning MX2 World Champion Musquin fell, Brayton closed the gap and looked set to challenge Hill for the win, but a tumble dropped him disastrously down the order.

Undeterred, Brayton came back charging and managed to make his way all the way back to fifth place, which was enough to clinch, by a single point, the title of King of Bercy. Stewart took second in the standings ahead of a trio of Frenchmen - Gregory Aranda, Marvin Musquin and Fabien Izord.
