Next season's GP schedule is likely to be (radically different) to those seen in recent years, according to FIA president Max Mosley.
Although the actual number of races in a season is limited by the sport's constitution, it is expected that several new venues will appear on the 1999 calendar. Mosley has already stressed that a Chinese event (is the number one priority), but that South Africa, Malaysia and Korea may also appear. This is in spite of the recent economic crisis in the Far East, from which Mosley is confident that Malaysia will emerge to take its place on the schedule. The USA is also a possible candidate for inclusion.
He has also said, however, that any additions to the timetable would be at the expense of European events, with several possibilities - particularly those with an anti-tobacco stance - under threat. The president also intimated that grand prix weekends could be reduced to two days, allowing for the possible inclusion of extra races.
