Monza is to alter its controversial first complex in time for this season's Italian Grand Prix after problems in the past.
The existing layout of two chicanes in quick succession has caused several accidents in recent years, and will now be replaced by a single, longer complex for this year's event. The distance between the two elements of the corner is also designed to prevent drivers taking a shortcut across the kerbs, which has often been the cause of the problems.
Circuit authorities also intend to create greater run-off areas at all points in the complex in order to catch errant cars, many of which approach the corner in excess of 200mph.
