Dakar: Defending champion Coma penalised
Defending Dakar winner Marc Coma suffered an early setback in his attempts to retain his crown after receiving a penalty following the second timed stage of this year's event, from Cordoba to La Rioja, in Argentina on Sunday.

“Coma was penalised 22 minutes for exceeding the speed limit going though a town in the first stage after a control of the riders' GPS systems last night,” said KTM's Stefan Huber.

The penalty knocked Coma - winner of the first Dakar in South America last year – from third to 14th place in the overall standings.

Frenchman David Casteu presently leads the event by 2min 10sec from Cyril Despres.

Both Despres and Coma are riding with air restrictors fitted to their KTM 690 Rally bikes to conform to the new Dakar regulations, which limit power to the equivalent of 450cc.
