Barcia laps Dungey in Budds Creek Mudfest

Yamaha's Justin Barcia took overall victory in a rain-lashed Budds Creek AMA National on Saturday night, lapping championship leader Ryan Dungey on the final lap of the second moto.

Dungey ran away with the opening race from Christophe Pourcel, Barcia and Blake Baggett. But as Barcia holeshot race two, Dungey went spectacularly over the bars trying to keep with him. Remounting with a massing front mudguard, he soldiered on to 11th and fell again. But he maintained his 37 point lead in the series from Ken Roczen who had a troubled day in the mire.

Dungey said: "I'm glad I'm OK. I just hit a soft spot and it ejected me. I did the best I could then tucked the front end and got stuck in the mud. These conditions are nasty."

Pourcel was runner up after a titanic battle with Blake Baggett. "Rain or shine it doesn't matter to me, I love it here," said Baggett.

Frenchman Marvin Musquin took the overall win in the MX2 class with 7-1 finishes, finishing level on points with Alex Martin who went 1-7. Martin won the first moto from his brother, defending champ Jeremy Martin, when the No1 stalled three corners from the end of the race.

Alex said: "I'm ecstatic but between the races my mechanics changed the motor as I had some problems. I'm stoked to get the first podium of my career!"

Musquin, who edged away from Jeremy Martin by two points in the title chase, clashed with Kawasaki man Adam Cianciarulo in the opener. Cianciarulo led the second moto but fell, handing Musquin the lead who romped to an easy win. Cianciarulo said: "I finally got a got start and crashed twice in one lap. I look at it like I'm a rookie as I've not raced much this year."

Kawasaki's Joey Savatgy got third overall and said: "Lots of things happen when it's muddy on days like today."
