It's America's annual motocross party as the US National series hit RedBud on US Independence Day, the 4th of July, and all hell let loose as the fans were wild and the racing even more so!
And they were treated unbelievable action in the 450 class as Yamaha's Justin Barcia took the overall after scrapping with points leader Ryan Dungey in both motos. Both had a win and a second place each, with Barcia's win in moto two giving him the overall victory. With Ken Roczen taking third place with two distant third place finishes, it means Dungey extends his title lead to 44 points as Barcia edged closer to Roczen. It was Barcia's second overall win in two weeks.
In the opening race, Barcia led but was hounded all the way by Dungey who managed to slip past towards the end of the moto and stay a safe distance in front. It made amends for last week's mudfest race at Budds Creek where Barcia won and lapped the KTM man who had fallen twice. Defending champ Roczen made consistent progress through the ranks to third, but looked far from the rider he was last season.
Barcia holeshot moto two from Dungey, Christophe Pourcel, and Roczen who quickly charged after the Frenchman and eventually scraped by - then set off trying to catch Dungey.
But the Suzuki rider was no match for the leading duo, as Barcia maintained a small gap in front of Dungey right to the end of the race, fighting off a number of challenges from the Supercross champ.
Jeremy Martin swept the 250 class in both motos to take the lead in the championship, but was made to work hard for his wins by the return of Cooper Webb who led both heats. In the opener, Martin led the first three laps but then faded back to fourth as Webb, Marvin Musquin and Zach Osbourne came through.
But the Yamaha man regrouped and charged back to challenge leader Webb, scraping through on the last lap to take the win. Osborne took third after points leader Musquin fell and remounted fourth as he tried to keep his 10-point buffer at the head of the championship alive.
In race two Christian Craig made the early running from Webb as Musquin battled for third with the Martin brothers, Alex and Jeremy.
Webb took the lead but then crashed out as Jeremy Martin carved through to take another win from Osborne and Craig while series leader Musquin could only manage sixth.
Martin now leads Musquin by seven points as next week the championship takes to the track run by Martin's family, Millville.
