Honda surprise as Bobryshev signs again

HRC re-signs Russian Evgeny for 2016 season despite several poor seasons
HRC Honda has extended its contract with Russian MXGP rider Evgeny Bobryshev until the end of next season, which means he'll be teamed up with Gautier Paulin for a second consecutive year.

For the 28-year-old from Kondrovo, it will be his seventh season with Honda in GP motocross. He joined the British CAS Honda team in 2010, winning the British championship, then moved up to the official factory team a year later.

Ironically that season was his best, as he was fourth in the championship and won the German GP at Teutschenthal. Injury has plagued him in every season since, leading many to think he'd be dropped. But in 2015 he has made a stronger showing and is currently fifth in the championship.

However, that's mainly due to injuries to rivals like Ryan Villopoto, Clement Desalle, Kevin Strjbos, Tyla Rattray, Ken De Dycker and Tommy Searle.

Bobryshev said: “Representing HRC is a big honour and I'm really happy to be staying. We all work very well together, the level of factory support is so high, and I have a great crew around me. This season I'm really getting back to my full performance again so to continue next year in the same way is perfect.”

While HRC is now set for 2016, Kawasaki still has a second slot to fill due to its riders Ryan Villopoto and Tyla Rattray retiring. Jordi Tixier has been signed up for 2016 and Steven Frossard this week joins the team in Latvia as a fill-in rider until the end of the season. Frossard, who recently split with the British Wilvo KTM team, was axed by Kawasaki last season for its superstar signings of Villopoto and Rattray.

Frossard will hope he gets the job again for 2016, but with riders such as Clement Desalle and Shaun Simpson being linked with the berth, he will have to prove himself in the remaining races.
