Herlings hurt in Czech GP spill

Looks like the end of the world title campaign for two-times champ Jeffrey
Jeffrey Herlings' bid to win a third world championship seems to be at an end as the Dutchman has injured his leg in a crash in the qualifying heat for the Czech GP in Loket. The KTM rider fell and was accidentally hit by world champ Jordi Tixier who couldn't avoid his stricken pal. Herlings was attended to at the scene and has been taken to hospital. It's believed he has dislocated his hip. We'll update this story when we get more info.

It's been a disasterous year for Herlings who was making his comeback at Loket after hurting his hand two rounds ago. His 100-plus points lead had been cut down to 46 points by Honda's Tim Gajser.

Last year, Herlings had a huge lead when he broke his femur in a charity race in July. He made his comeback at the final race of the year in September but lost the title to Tixier. It seems history could once again be repeating itself.

It's a major blow for KTM with their main championship contenders, Herlings in MX2 and Tony Cairloli in MXGP, now both on the sidelines with injuries. After five years of total dominance in GPs, it could be Honda or Yamaha that win both titles. Honda man Gajser is odds-on to take the lead in the MX2 class this weekend, with Yamaha's Valentin Guillod just 25 points further back. In the MXGP class, Yamaha's Romain Febvre leads the series while Honda's Gautier Paulin is 66 points back.

It was good news for Brits at the Czech race as Kawasaki's Max Anstie won the MX2 qualifying heat from Guillod. Ben Watson was 14th, two places in front of Adam Sterry.

In the MXGP qualifier, Febvre won from Paulin, Glenn Coldenhoff, followed by Brits Shaun Simpson and Tommy Searle. Nathan Watson was 13th and Jake Nicholls 19th. Brad Anderson won the EMX300 opening race from fellow Brit Matt Moffat. And Jack Bintcliffe won the EMX 150 class.
