Van Horebeek stays with Yamaha for 2016

Jeremy Van Horebeek is to stay with Yamaha for next year with the Factory Racing Yamalube team, partnered again with Romain Febvre who also re-signed with the team recently.

Since his stunning 2014 rookie MXGP season when he came second to eight-time world champion Tony Cairoli, Van Horebeek was expected to come into the 2015 season with all guns blazing. But after a lack-lustre start, the Belgian rider's title hopes were dashed by a broken foot in the fourth round at Trentino. With Van Horebeek sidelined, it's been his team mate Febvre that has had all the limelight in the Yamaha squad, and rightly so as he looks to be heading for a world champinship title in his first year in the MXGP class, Yamaha's first since Cairoli left them for KTM.

Van Horebeek was understandably pleased at being part of the squad again for next year, giving him the chance to show the same speed he had in 2014

"I had an idea in my mind for next year and was able to agree pretty quickly with Yamaha", said Van Horebeek." It was an arrangement that I had made my mind up about quite a long time ago actually. I'm stoked that finally it can be announced. The level that I reached in 2014 is coming back but it has taken a long time. We are working hard every week and now that we are clear for 2016 we can start to think about next season already.

"Yamaha stepped it up with some different people and more activation this year and they want to put the company back at the top in many ways. I think its good thing that they want to push harder and promote more."

Yamaha's European Motocross manager Erik Eggens - himself a legendary GP rider - was similarly delighted with JVH's decision to stay blue for the next season.

"We're really happy that Jeremy will stay in the team and part of our Yamaha structure for 2016. We had a great year in 2014 and Jeremy has been almost coming back to that level from the middle of this season. We all know Jeremy is one of the best riders in the world when he meets his full potential. I believe with Jeremy and Romain on board our factory team will have a very strong line-up for MXGP in 2016."

If Febvre does manage to take the MXGP title in his rookie year it's going to be a tough act to follow, but Van Horebeek is a rider that has the potential to do just that.
