Suzuki's premier rider Clement Desalle's comeback ended almost as soon as it had started, with a crash in practice dislocating the same shoulder that he had injured earlier in the season. After his stunning return to form at the Czech GP when he came back with a second place behind man of the moment Romain Febvre after missing four Grands Prix, hopes were raised that Desalle could be the man to take the fight to the French rider. After Lommel, the only fight that Desalle will have is the one back to fitness after the surgery he will have on his shoulder next week.

It's a bitter blow for the rider who has had to play bridesmaid to eight-time champion Tony Cairoli on so many occasions that his season has been plagued by injury in the only year that his nemesis has also had to bow out. Rumours as to who the Belgian rider will ride for in 2016 are rife within the paddock as his contract with Suzuki is up for renewal, and another injury at the end of a frustrating season will not have given him the strongest of negotiating positions.
