Anaheim 2 – Stewart 3.

James Stewart has continued his faultless start to the 2007 AMA Supercross season by winning the second Anaheim event, round three of the series.

With reigning AMA champion Ricky Carmichael absent, due to his partial 2007 race schedule, A2 was expected to be a two-horse race between reigning World Supercross champion Stewart and former champion Chad Reed.

However, with Reed still riding injured, Stewart had no real opposition - the Kawasaki star taking the lead from Honda's Nick Wey before the end of the opening lap of the main event, then opening up a huge lead. Wey held onto second place until lap seven when Yamaha rider Reed moved ahead and the top three remained in those positions to the flag.

"I was having fun out there tonight," said Stewart. "I was able to get in a rhythm in the main event and took off from there. It wasn't a cake walk, but I was able to get out in front early. I am going to go back home and work hard for next weekend in San Francisco."

In the Supercross Lites class, Kawasaki's Steve Boniface earned the $1,000 Progressive Direct Holeshot Award with Honda's Josh Grant in tow. Last weekend's race winner and reigning MX2 world champion, Christophe Pourcel, started in 13th place and failed to finish while team-mate Villopoto moved into second place at the end of lap one, then passed Boniface for the lead on lap two before disappearing into the distance.

On lap six, Yamaha's Jason Lawrence moved into second place, passing Boniface and picking up his best finish of the season. Rookie Josh Hill pushed his Yamaha motorcycle into third place and earned his first career podium finish.

"I did the best I could out there tonight," said Villopoto. "It was a great night for me. At the start of the race, I wanted to get out front and pull away as quick as possible so I could have a clear track in front of me. I look forward to racing next weekend in San Francisco."
