Stewart back to front at Indianapolis.

Kawasaki's James Stewart fought his way through the pack to take his eighth victory of the AMA/World Supercross season, at Indianapolis on Saturday night.

Stewart's title rival Chad Reed sealed the holeshot and quickly built a huge lead while Stewart was buried near the back of the pack. However, the Floridian charged through the field, moving into second place on lap seven. On lap 14 Stewart passed Reed for lead and rode on to victory. Reed finished second with Stewart's team-mate Tim Ferry third.

"I was a little nervous when I saw Chad out front, and I was so far back in the pack," admitted Stewart. "I have worked hard for everything for my entire life, and that's what I did tonight, worked hard. I am so happy right now."

"I had a great start tonight," confirmed Reed. "It was a lot of riding up front, but I need to be more aggressive out there."

In the AMA Lites race, Suzuki's Ryan Dungey earned his second Eastern Regional win with a gate to flag victory. Former world champion Ben Townley was second to Dungey through turn one and remained in that position for all 15 laps. Series points leader Ryan Morais used a mid-pack start to salvage points heading into next weekend's race in Dallas.

"This was a huge win for me," said Dungey. "I have had some bad luck lately, and to pick up this win is huge for me and my team, who has been behind me all year. I have to use this as momentum for next weekend in Dallas."

Racing continues next Saturday, March 31, at Texas Stadium in Irving, Texas.
