Carmichael dominates muddy Millville.

After losing out to his only real rival, James Stewart, two week's earlier at Washougal, reigning AMA Motocross champion Ricky Carmichael produced a dominate display on his way to a perfect 1-1 sweep at a dry/wet Millville on Sunday.

The dry first race saw Stewart put his Kawasaki up front early, but then fall and hand Chad Reed a brief lead before the Yamaha rider was passed by Carmichael. Stewart eventually worked his way back into second but Carmichael's Suzuki remained out of sight.

Heavy rain before race two turned the final moto into a battle for survival, with the track almost impassable at times due to stricken riders. RC rode through it all without major incident and had lapped the entire field, led by David Vuillemin, by the chequered flag! Honda's Kevin Windham eventually took third with Stewart just eleventh and, along with Reed, the most high-profile casualty of a crazy race.

In overall terms, Carmichael took the win ahead of Vuillemin and Windham.

In the Motocross Lites class, Honda's Andrew Short took race one ahead of title contender Ryan Villopoto, Suzuki's Broc Hepler and championship leader Mike Alessi - but it was Helper that coped better with the race two rain, taking both the moto and overall victory.

Matthew Goerke used the conditions to take a shock second ahead of Alessi in race two, while Villopoto was seventh - giving Alessi a five point lead over Villopoto with three rounds to go. However, the race two results are currently provisional while the AMA investigates complaints of outside rider assistance during the muddy mess.
