Simoncelli confirmed for Sepang rookie test

The San Carlo Honda Gresini team has confirmed to Crash.net that its 2010 MotoGP rookie Marco Simoncelli will take part in a special test at Sepang in Malaysia on December 21-23.

Although nothing official has been announced regarding extra track time for new MotoGP riders, it seems all four 250cc graduates will get three-days of additional track time before the next official MotoGP test - for the full 2010 field - takes place at Sepang in early February.

Rizla Suzuki rookie Alvaro Bautista rode at Estoril last week, while new Aspar Ducati rider Hector Barbera is presently taking part in a similar three-day outing at Jerez.

Honda meanwhile has opted for a venue outside of Europe for its rookies, with Simoncelli being joined at Sepang by Hiroshi Aoyama, the newly crowned 250cc world champion who will ride for the new Interwetten team.

Regarding Gresini's Moto2 project, it is 'likely' that the team's former MotoGP rider Toni Elias - who has a pre-contract agreement until the end of November - will commit to the project full time. The second ride, on the team's Moriwaki machines, is more open.

So if (or when?)one of the rookies starts besting the Aliens next season what will Dorna pull out of their hat to make the show better? The rookie rule must go! All it has done so far is force a bigger wedge between the factories and the satellite squads making for even more disparate results next year.
