Edwards: Crew chief is 'borderline genius'

Colin Edwards has brushed aside any qualms he may have had with new crew chief Guy Coulon after labelling him a 'borderline genius' during the final MotoGP test of the season at Valencia.

Edwards was reportedly unhappy with Tech 3 Yamaha team-mate James Toseland after the pair swapped crew chiefs ahead of the 2009 season, with Gary Reinders joining forces with the Brit for his sophomore year.

Nonetheless, Edwards, who sampled Bridgestone tyres on the Tech 3 bike for the first time this week, insists he is more than content with the current situation, lauding Coulon's past efforts and the impact he was already having on him in Spain.

“Working with him these past two days been really awesome,” he told the MotoGP website. “Guy is fantastic, and we all know that he's a borderline genius in terms of what he's done in the past.”

Looking ahead to the new season, Edwards points to Valentino Rossi's success aboard the Yamaha to affirm the competitiveness of their bike. With that in mind, he wants to work closely with the factory team in order to find an improvement in performance.

“I made it clear at the last race that I don't want to reinvent the wheel, going off in some wild direction. We know what Valentino has done this season, we know what settings he has, so we should just keep in close contact with Nakajima and run around that.´

“It seems like its going pretty good, and I think that the new chassis will suit me even more. I'm feeling good about it.”
