Sorry but this guy is yesterdays news. He spent 3 winless seasons in MotoGP. He was clearly the number 2 rider to Capirossi when was in the factory Ducati MotoGP team and did little to impress on the RC211V, a proven package. Sounds like a courtesy ride to me. Another world superbike champion who underperformed in MotoGP. If this is Ducati's hope to improve the desomsedici, I'm afraid they will be disappointed.

Troy is an old school seat of the pants proper talented GIFTED rider, like Hislop who went faster around Donington on a tuned up road bike than Moto G.P stars on prototypes, probably the furthest rider style from his fellow countryman who seems to have the ability to extract the best form from this Digital Ducati at the moment, a worthy experiment but that is all it is, see it for what it is people who do not understand Race Motorcycle Evolution.
The End

Yes, I'm aware of Troy's earlier 250 exploits and his wildcard ride. What I was referring to was his "style". He's not as much a front end guy like a Biaggi but has a more of a superbike style of riding. Whatever the case, hopefully he can find something to help balance out that damn Desmo.

Cheers RawDawg.

I wasn't crirising your comment, as i know where you are coming from!
As we all know, every rider has their style of riding a bike that suits them and they're confident with!
Troy is a smoothe rider, yet he can be ragged sometimes, but that is his style and he is a world class rider!
Lets hope he gets to grips with the gp bike!

Didn't Troy bring his WSBK engineers with him for the MotoGP wild card ride? I thought this was more of a reason for him being so competitive (after winning the WSBK championship on a 999cc Ducati against 1000cc 4cyls, so much for the capacity advantage).

I think the WSBK team is superior to the MotoGP team which is why they have won so much in WSBK. Not the imagined capacity advantages, which if you know anything about how to get horsepower are just that imaginary.

Maybe they need to switch to MotoGP and take the hit in WSBK to get some success?

Any of you clowns that fantasize that this is anything other than trying to get development input from a world class rider are high as he11! Ducati has acknowledged that the GP9 (and the GP7&8 before it) are extremely narrow focus instruments. Stoner is, I believe the only rider ever to notch a win on the 800cc Ducati. So far you have had Gibernau, Melandri, Nicky Hayden and several others beat themselves silly trying to match Stoners pace on the thing. Nicky noted that he was struggling with the FI mapping varying in every segment and sometimes every corner of the track. Stoner seems to have come to grips with it and faired pretty well but Ducati needs more quantitative input to progress!

yes, loris did win, but that win was a weird wet/dry motegi race where late decisions to come in cost casey and vale the win. Early decisions by Loris and Randy on his kwaka scored them a good position.

Ducati has a big problem. Their 800s are a total pig for any rider other than Casey. Being the smallest factory they lack the resources to build an all new chassis that would work for normal humans. If Hadyen has a season like Marco's, Ducati will not be able to attract any top ranked riders for the future. You have to give them credit though in just a few years to come from also rans to building the dominant championship winning bike. In the process humiliating Suzuki and Kawasaki who have been involved much longer and haven't achieved a fraction of Ducatis success.
