When Rossi loses , it's never because another rider is better than him that day...it' s always the tires, the weather, the stars...

Fiat Yamaha has defended its decision to send Valentino Rossi out on a hard compound front slick, which looked to cost the Italian his eighth home Mugello victory in a row.

Why is it that if something is wrong with the bike it is someone having a whinge. He admitted he picked the wrong tyres and suffered as a result. I think it obvious by now that Rossi like Dov, Jorge and Casey can all ride. Also look at Melandri, bad on a Duc, almost winning races on a Kwaka, if this doesn't prove that the greatest differentiator in outcome is the bike (and its setup) I don't know what is, and sometimes they state that, eg. bad tyre choice. However, I agree that Rossi looked pretty pissed off and equally very lukewarm (almost hostile) to Jorge, which is rather strange and possibly a bit hippocritical and I am a Rossi fan. Maybe 3 challengers rather than 1 is a bigger prob

I doubt JB and VR put the wrong tire on, they just evaluated the situation and picked the best option.

Nobody knew when VR would pit in so the bike was ready from start with tires that can last the whole distance.

Fitting softer tires also requires changes in the setup, they had a good and predictable setup with the hard tires and it is what they used rather than an unquantified last minute setup.

Some other teams took a gamble fitting softer tires and it seems it paid today but VR/JB looked at a championship, they collected 16 points without taking risks or a gamble.

Last week they took a gamble pitting early, no room for another gamble at this stage now it is consistencey.

i am a big rossi fan, is it me or has he been losing some of his 'always have fun' character recently? Whenever he gets beaten (especially by lorenzo and then stoner) he is not a happy man (which ofcourse is understandable). At least he could hide his bitterness in front of the cameras and congratulate a bit more warmly the others.

I'm a little confused by the 'hate' Stoner or Rossi comments. Do you know these guys personally and have they done something to you that would give you reason to 'hate' them? Or are you just petty ignorant wannabees sitting behind a computer screen wishing you had half the capability and talent these guys had at age 5?

The nature of the beast with top line riders/drivers is that they have total belief in themselves and can never accept that anyone is better than they are. Good, yes, but better, never. This is why they blame everything else rather than accept that on that day, someone was better.

"but VR/JB looked at a championship, they collected 16 points without taking risks or a gamble"

Are you seriously trying to suggest that yesterday Rossi decided on playing safe rather than trying to win?

No chance!

Rossi said he was happy to be on the podium at Mugello, in front of so many passionate fans. There was no bitterness. Ofcourse he was disappointed and rightly so, ofcourse it shows in his face. That is the kind of open character he is.
He is also a professional and will move on to he next race and give it his best.
Third is a good result, better than binning it on a half dry track :)
