Back in the day... 1978 to be exact, a certain Barry Sheene was defending the championship from Kenny Roberts. Sheene had won the title in the previous two years.

Barry won the first race of the season in Venezuela, then succumbed to a mystery virus that screwed the remainder of the year.

Some, (unfairly in my opinion) claimed it was a "strange and selective" virus that would only enable you to finish second, third, etc'

Deja vu anyone ? :-o

The General ?? I could think of alot better names than that..How about the Tool Squeezer ?
Thats it..Casey is faking it for sure..He just made up some terrible illness because he was being beaten..What kind of moron are you ?? The Yamahas are definately on song..No doubt..Also ridden by two awesome riders but to speak the crap that you are speaking is just ridiculous..Grow a brain and stop talking s**t..It's pretty obvious he is not well..Get out there..Show us how to do it..Do you even ride a motorcycle ? My guess is Moped at the very most..Only one pussy here and thats you..Hiding behind your computer..

Just hope it's nothing serious, I don't think he's faking it.

Not his biggest fan but to say he's faking it is plain stupid, pretty obvious he's not fully fit but even if he was I don't think the Ducati is the fastest bike any more.

Make no mistake Stoner's lap times are as fast as Rossi, Lorenzo and Pedrosa's still, he just can't maintain them for the whole race anymore due to his illness. In fact he's saying the bike is great after every race. As son as he's fit we'll see him back at the front but if its EPV.. that could be a while.

He's lost his bottle for the fight that's all it is. He's moaning about this mystery illness that no doctor has ever seen before, his wrist that at the start of the Championship was all fixed until he realised he wasnt quick enough blah blah blah.

Meanwhile Lorenzo is riding his nuts off with a dislocated collarbone and almost took 20 points without any moaning/whinging/pathetically walking about looking like he was about to cry

Barry Sheene suffered a similar problem (genuine) when he started getting beaten by Kenny Roberts. Perhaps it is as much a mental condition that triggers a physical reaction.
After all, even in the real world, stress is a killer.

I don't think the circumstances with the Stoner situation are all that similar to Sheene.

Sheene and his mate Cecotto had been bragging all winter about what they were going to do to this yank who dared to challenge them but when Roberts arrived they had little answer for him.

Sheene won his two previous titles relatively unchallenged, his very fast team mate in 75 (Teuvo Lansivouri) got demoted to a customer bike from 76 on. Phil Read was on customer bikes, Ago had complete brain fade and went back to MV!, and Steve Baker wasn't up to the job in 77. In short, Sheene had an opponent in 78 of a standard which he'd never faced before in GP's, Casey is fit for any of his rivals if healthy.

If it is the Epstein Barr virus then the good news is that he should be starting to recover soon as it can take up to 30-40 days to burn out of your system, so hopefully by Donington he should be back on form (especially if he has some of the best doctors in the world behind him).

Am a Rossi fan and a racefan, so get well soon Casey (and Jorge) so we can have a title fight right to Valencia :)
