MOTOGP » Toseland black flag for missing 'harsh' penalty

James Toseland had a day to forget at Laguna Seca on Sunday, being black flagged on lap 11 after failing to serve a ride-through penalty for jumping the start.

Herve: "James has everything he asked for. We have given him perfect conditions for him to succeed. We now expect him to run with the other Yamaha riders. The only person who holds the key to his lack of performance is James himself."

Not only had Tech 3 given him everything Team Fiat's Director has personally been setting up JT's bike for him?! And what has been the result?

Herve had to point out that JT has learned the importance of reading his pit board?!

Yamaha without doubt wants him succeed but clearly Toseland doesn't have right stuff and everyone can stop with the JT/Spies swap. Maio would never want him when he has two hungry talents like Crutchlow & Camier waiting in line.

It's possible this chronology is wrong but this is how I remember Toseland's rise: He came from BSB as Hodgson's team mate on the HM Plant Ducati and acquitted himself quite well (even though he was consistently spanked by Hodgson during that time). He moved onto the factory Ducati (after Hodgson and Xaus went to gp's in the footsteps of CE and TB) and was gifted the title by Laconi after he'd been schooled again. The following year he was shown up by Lanzi (I think) in the factory squad (Corser's year)and then given the boot and went to Ten Kate. He ran away with the first half of the season on a far superior bike and at least showed some bottle to snatch the title. Motogp material? NO!!

Looking at it objectively, by his own admission JT knew he rolled the bike forward from his grid spot. He should really have been aware of the *possibility* of a ride through penalty.

Unfortunately, in being black flagged, he committed the cardinal sin this weekend - he disappointed and embarrassed the sponsors in their own back yard. Hard to see a way back from that one, Dorna cash or no.

@the Orafice I meen oracle. So James got lucky then throughout his career. This site spawns mostly utter rubbish. You could argue any rider with any title just lucked especially those who have only done it with one manufacturer. JT is on the rocks and a p45 may well have his name on it but give the guy credit he earned his ride.

I suggest ex-wsbk riders can ride as good as any rider out there. They just can't set a bike up so will never be consistently good unless given years on top machinery by which time they've generally lost the fire.

Well said Axis - Some peoples expectations of JT are ridiculous - he is never going to win a title in MotoGP, but he took a pay cut to test himself against the best - I admire him for that - he could have carried on racking up championships in WSB.

Scott tracey - you obviously didn't read the season ending comparison tests which rated the TK bike as the worst of the 4 cylinder bikes.

Axis got it right -superbikers don't have the experience to setup the bike.

Puzzled - the reason toni Elias was raised is because HRC gave his team a full factory Honda on which he has underperformed,

At the end of the day there is only one Rossi, one Stoner and one Lorenzo - they can't all win!
