MOTOGP » Toseland black flag for missing 'harsh' penalty

James Toseland had a day to forget at Laguna Seca on Sunday, being black flagged on lap 11 after failing to serve a ride-through penalty for jumping the start.

Funny to read how many people are in defence of JT ( I don't refer to the arrogance part because I feel he isn't ). His performance is lacklustre this year. 2008 he had a promising start and he got in some good results. Then he faded with al the other Michelin riders. The tyres could be blamed. 2009 he is nowhere. His early crashes and the change of rules for testing will have an impact at first. But now, he should be up there and he isn't. He simply isn't delivering. He keeps trailing Edwards every weekend at more or less the same distance. He needs to raise his game quickly or he will be out ( maybe even before the end of the season ). And with Spies delivering the goods on a Yamaha....

I think,to a certain extent, you make your own luck in motorsport and the better you are,the "luckier" you are.Whilst I,like many other Brits,am delighted to see James in the top flight,it's becoming increasingly apparent,to me at least, that maybe he simply isn't good enough to compete at this level.(I too have met James away from the track, and a nicer bloke you couldn't wish to meet).Come on James,I'd love you to prove me wrong!

JT is not doing to good this year. He started his career in motogp near the top, qualifying etc, and proceeded to work his way back. Why?

As a Brit it boggles the mind how we shamelessly hype our sportsmen. Whether it be Tim Henman, our National football team or more recently Andy Murray and Toseland. All are talented world class athletes but NONE are the best. We even have the brass ones to claim English Premier teams are the best in the world. Well English BASED teams ARE the best, perhaps. Unfortunately the top four are made up mainly of foreigners.

Toseland doesn't have IT, factory Yamaha or not. Edwards spanks him every week and when Edwards had the best bike on the grid he couldn't do a thing there either. Lorenzo on the other hand has excelled in the same position. JT, please swap with Spies next year.

Dont think I will ever get over this. If something can go wrong for james this year it will. When I saw the Black flag beside his number on sunday evening I very nearly cried. This is one season JT will want to forget.

My poor heart bleeds for him

I've read some of the comments on here and once again anything to do with James Toseland and it's "daggers out".I cant be bothered to say much,James was unlucky at Laguna with regard to his jump start,he probably pulled up too close to the grid sensor and moved the bike the slightest way forward and set it off,it's tough but just one of those things. For me,i'm just going to see how he goes on for the rest of the year and hope things improve. There were a lot of issues against him this weekend caused mainly by his team if reports are correct.Time to put the past to bed and on to the next round.
Sir Yank Spankington, nice comment Sir.I'm sure JT can turn things around also.A lot of races to go.

Some of you guys really make my S@&T Hang!!!

This guy is the only british rider in the top class yet any time there is an article on him you constantly put him down.

If he does a concert for YOU, his supposed fans, he is not concentrating on his racing. If he finishes an excellent 6th place after battling all race as he did last week he got lucky.

I have seen posts on here saying he should be replaced by HASLAM!! F%*K me guys!!

James is the 2004 & 2007 WSBK CHAMPION who in 2007 did what Spies is doing now... the only difference being James was leading & won the championship!!!! Which included BAYLISS et al.

Give this guy a break & show some support.

RULE BRITANIA!!!

Re Pit boards, if you are in the top three and want to know how close the rider behind is then it's very usefull information or if you are trying to close a big gap and want to see if it is coming down. If your are down in 15th virtually at the back it does not matter what is happening behind you and if you can see the guy in front you can tell how close you are.
You just ride as fast as you can and try and pass as many other riders as you can and don't bother concentrating on anything else. Judging by most of the comments non of you keyboard commandos have ever raced a bike let alone at this level.

JT: "I feel like the jump start was pretty harsh. I knew it was close but I didn't think I'd jumped the start"

Seems weird to me that if he "knew it was close" that he didn't check his pit board after the first or second lap to make sure there was no penalty? :?

Oh well, good luck for Sachsenring & hoping for a better show @ Donington this year :)
