I guess it's fair to say that he's done alright on equipment that's not quite on par with Golden Boy. I am a bit surprised and feel a little ripped off to learn that they don't both have the latest gear, and kind of raises the possibility of team orders again doesn't it?
Oh, for the Rossi fanboys, it's a rhetorical question.

I'm sure Jorge simply used Ducati to jack up his asking price. It would have likely taken him a while to get up to speed on the Ducati anyway and he would be immediately compared to Casey. Would have been awesome have them switch rides though. I'm raring to see how Casey would go on another bike. My guess is pretty f%cking fast!

@Morgue: "If you can't get a feel for the limit and keep going over it you lack talent or learning abilities."

That sounds great... too bad it's not exactly true. Racers spend a lot of time in practice to move the limit out so they can COMFORTABLY go faster. They know where the limit is, and the smart ones stay within it and have long careers.

Racers who ride over their limit regularly... well, they regularly crash.

Nearing it is ok, being on it maybe as well. Going over it means crashing.
Ofcourse they try to stretch it and find out where the limit is, that's why they are professional racers. But consistently going over it in a race can't be the objective.
Unless you like graveltraps ofcourse :p

puffy.

How do you 'move the limit out' without crossing the old best limit?

In one of Vale's books , he quoted something like
" If you don't go over the limit, you'll never know where it is !!"

A luxury enjoyed only by people who have someone else pick up the bills, no doubt !!

Robert.

It helps if you don't have to pay for the carnage, however, going over the limit is surely a state of mind.. you're prepared to push to find a new limit or not.

@wosideg

True

But in direct context he was describing limits as limits on tyre adhesion / lean angles / braking / corner speed and corner exit throttle application.

Guess he ( and all the others ) are pushing these limits all the time - I don't because the costs would be enormous when I inevitably get it wrong !!

It was reported that the main reason for Jorge not signing with Yamaha right away was that besides equal equipment, he also wanted equal amount of Luck as Rossi.
Only after Furusawa promised Jorge the same amount of luck, and also the same lucky parts as Rossi, Jorge put down his signature.

Or......
If you have the best gear(ensured by Carmello as the DORNA goat...or golden goose!), you don't have to go as close to the limit and still be competitive. And we all know about those special 'unmarked' tyres, don't we boys? Well now we know, poor old George also has to push hard on second rate equipment too!
