I'm no Spies fan but this was a mistake on the part of Yam. They should have moved him into tech3 immediately to have him on the Fiat in time for either the expiration of JLo's contract or a possible Rossi retire. This will kill Spies' amazing momentum and trap him in the SBK curse that befalls any rider too accustomed to an SBK bike when they join MotoGP.

To52er should have taken the sbk ride for '10 and straight swapped for the tech3 seat!

This is shocking! What the hell is the point of this guy mulling around in the talent starved sbk class with a stumbling bride's made haga, a pensioner checa and biaggi with a broken hopkins and pretenders haslam and sykes?!?!?! Spies is a class above!

Not a good move for Spies IMO. He has already proven that he can beat the best WSBK has to offer with relative ease. Even if he doesn't win the title this year he doesn't have anything left to prove in WSBK. Get him into GP so he can start acclimating rather than wasting another year in WSBK. He's got a lot more potential than either Colin or JT.

Good for yamaha, so so for Spies.

I agree that he's above the rest of the field.
Yamaha will not throw JT on the SBK when Edwards can kick ass from the first race.

Latest updates and full support at Tech 3?

I have to see it to believe it. His manager is a bully thou. (In a good way)She will make sure he does get the treatment specially if he gives yamaha their first 2 crowns in WSBK.

Wise lad!!

He surely knows he's no match for my lovely son and he doesn't want to be embarrassed on the world stage.

Better to hide in wsbk while my boy becomes motogp world champion in 2010!!! :D :D

I agree Spies is more talented than Edwards or Toseland. But I like this. The SBK paddock is more fun and the racing closer. Ben's having fun on Lake Como adjusting to the good life and doing well. I think Ben likes the idea of 3 time AMA champ, two time SBK Champ and 2 or 3 time MotoGP champ. The transition from SBK to MotoGP is difficult, but all the haters said he be an also ran in SBK. Wrong then, wrong now. :)

this is unbelievable the statement is vague and the foresee? if spies will take the championship they ill move him to motogp, no way they will let him gain habbits which do not fit motogp racing, they just want to make sure he is a champion first, who would have thought that fabritzio will have such an impact on both WSBK and MOTOGP

If Yamaha wanted to guarantee the WSBK and MGP title in 2009 and 2010 then this is the result. The real question is who will ride the Tech 3 next year. My guess is Edwards and ...........Aohyama

Yamaha wants a couple Superbike crowns and Yamaha pays the bills, that's how it works in the real world. Spies could do a lot worse, and don't forget his "I know what I want to do next year" quote.
